Iceland - a dream come true

Dream’s do come true. Iceland has been my dream for a very long time, I have been dreaming for a trip to Iceland since 2018 but with family commitments and that thing called COVID it went on the back burner for a while.

But…. August 2024 was my time to be Iceland bound. We spent 3 1/2 weeks in Iceland, spending our time hiking the Laugavegur Trail and campervanning our way around this beautiful island.

We were so blessed to see puffins, waterfalls, canyons, amazing views, stunnging valleys, northern lights and even an erupting volcano.

Stay tuned for the wonderful stories about our adventures and images……..

SKOGAFOSS, ICELAND

Craig's Hut

Like so many of us I live a busy life juggling the commitments of family and full time work. My “wish list” of places to see and photograph grows longer day by day. Craigs Hut is one place that has been on my list for a very long time. It was on our return home from the Great Ocean Walk recently that we decided to take a detour into Mt Stirling and visit this iconic landmark. Made for, and famous, by “The Man from Snowy River” movie the hut and location did not disappoint - it was absolutely stunning. We chose to camp at the hut and enjoy both sunset and sunrise before heading home.

Craigs Hut is an easy location to get to. Located about 1 hour drive from Mansfield, with a 30km of the drive on good dirt roads we parked the car at the Circuit Road Picnic area and walked the final 1.7km into the hut with our camping gear to spend the night. If you own a 4WD you can drive all the way to the hut, although I’m not sure how good the 4WD track is.

It is certainly a must do location.

Davistown sunset

The Codock II - Davistown, NSW

It was a last minute decision on a Saturday afternoon to go visit the Codock II at Davistown for an afternoon shoot. I have always wanted to photograph this beautiful boat which has recently been restored.

The afternoon showed sunset promise but as the evening progressed it became more and more grey. As the sun dropped behind the mountains there was a hint we may get a sunset. Ten minutes later mother nature gave us this! It was the most stunning of sunsets that I have seen for a very long time.

It’s always good to just go with the flow…..you never know what surprises await.

Very excited to say that this wonderful sunset image has won, well I have won - I guess the image can come if it wants to, a 7 day trip to the Cook Islands. Can’t wait and stay tuned for Cook Island images.

This image, as are all images in my portfolio, is available for sale.

Church of the Good Shepard, NZ

Good Shepard.jpg

The Church of the Good Shepard in Lake Tekapo New Zealand is on the edge of Lake Tekapo with the most stunning views and mountain ranges. Even in December, when this image was taken, you can find snow on the mountain peaks behind. I love this image as it is a rare occasion that you can photograph this church without people around. It has become an incredibly popular tourist attraction no matter what time the day or night. I understand it is now fenced to protect the peace and privacy of church goers from selfie hunters. It reminder that you should always take the opportunity to take the shot because you never know what the future holds. This image is for sale as are all images in my portfolio.

Wet Feet

I love being in nature and everything that nature can throw at you. This was taken at North Avoca Rock Shelf on the beautiful Central Coast of NSW. It was a grey sunless sunrise with big seas.

I love the motion and speed of the wave in this shot - it reminds me of fireworks!

I love pushing outside of my comfort zone but never take unnecessary risks.  - after all, no shot is worth your safety.... but I did get very wet!
